THE GENERAL CALLS FOR ‘TSUNAMI OF PRAYER’ ON SUNDAY 19 APRIL TO COMBAT WORLDWIDE EFFECTS OF COVID-19
April 19, 2020Ebute Metta Corps celebrates a new season of growth and service
Ebute Metta Corps, Lagos, held a special Service of Celebration and Launch on Sunday, 28th June 2026, under the theme: “Renewed. Commissioned. Launched. For Greater Impact!”
The service was a significant moment in the life of the Corps, bringing together distinguished senior officers, the Territorial Commanders – Commissioners Friday and Glory Ayanam (TPWM), Nigeria Territory, the Divisional Commander and DDWM – Majors John and Veronica Okpalaihedi, officers in the division, soldiers, youths, children, invited guests, friends, and well-wishers to celebrate growth, renewed commitment, and the launch of key initiatives aimed at strengthening the mission and ministry of the Corps.
The programme featured four major highlights: the launch of the Corps’ maiden magazine, The Lampstand; the unveiling of the Ebute Metta Corps website; the dedication of the Junior Corps Hall; and the commencement of the Youth Fellowship Project.
Launch of The Lampstand Magazine
One of the key moments of the day was the official launch of The Lampstand, the maiden magazine publication of The Salvation Army, Ebute Metta Corps. The magazine was introduced as a platform to document the life of the Corps, preserve stories, share testimonies, promote youth engagement, and communicate the mission of The Salvation Army in a fresh and relevant way.
The publication reflects the creativity, commitment, and collective voice of the Corps. It also serves as a tool for outreach, education, inspiration, and historical record-keeping.
The digital copy is now available for download.
Unveiling of the Corps Website
The service also featured the unveiling of the Ebute Metta Corps website, a digital platform created to improve access to information about the Corps and The Salvation Army.
The website provides key information about The Salvation Army, including its vision, mission, identity, and work. It also features information about the international, territorial, and divisional leadership of The Salvation Army, as well as the Corps Officers of Ebute Metta Corps.
In addition, the website houses relevant information about the Corps, its activities, and important updates. It also provides further details about The Lampstand, making the magazine and its related content more accessible to members, guests, friends of the Corps, and the wider public.
The unveiling of the website represents an important step in strengthening the Corps’ digital presence, improving communication, and expanding its reach beyond the physical church community.
Dedication of the Junior Corps Hall
The dedication of the Junior Corps Hall marked another important milestone. The hall was set apart as a space for nurturing children in Christian teaching, discipline, fellowship, and service.
This development reflects the Corps’ commitment to raising the next generation in the knowledge of God and in the values of The Salvation Army. It also provides a more focused environment for children’s activities, learning, and spiritual development.
Commencement of the Youth Fellowship Project
The Youth Fellowship also formally introduced its project initiative as part of its contribution to the life and sustainability of the Corps. The project includes the establishment of a mobile tuck shop to serve after-service needs such as drinks, snacks, tea, and light refreshments.
The initiative is designed as a modest income-generating project to support the activities of the Youth Fellowship while also serving the wider Corps community. Support was solicited through direct cash donations and item sponsorship, particularly towards the purchase of a small freezer, kettle, toaster, and other basic items needed for the take-off of the project.
This project demonstrates the desire of the youth to move beyond participation into responsibility, enterprise, and active contribution to the mission of the Corps.
The 28th June celebration was more than a ceremonial gathering. It represented a clear statement of vision for the Corps: to preserve its story, invest in its children, empower its youth, and strengthen its ministry for greater impact.
As the Corps moves forward, the prayer is that every initiative launched on the day will continue to grow, bear lasting fruit, and contribute meaningfully to the spiritual and social life of the Corps community.
